Social Apps: Untapped

So we all know about the major social networks, your Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr... These sites and sites like them (MySpace, Hahahaha) have been the bread and butter to Internet Marketers since they were created. They still continue to be power houses for those who know how to use them effectively. There have been tons of articles and blogs on how to use social media sites to generate traffic to your site. The truth is that most of these sites have become over saturated with people trying to peddle their affiliate links in any manner possible. Most of the people whom you are trying to target to your site can see right through doing this method and all you end up doing is irritating your followers. You can use these sites still and very effectively but that's for a different article. There are however, sites that mimic the top tier social media sites and you can use those sites to funnel traffic to your target.

So among other things, I am a avid Doctor Who fan. One night while I was bored I started to look through the Google Play store for all things related to Doctor Who. I stumbled across an app that was a Doctor Who Mecca. It was a social media site dedicated to fans of Doctor Who. I couldn't believe it! Right in front of me where two things I loved...Doctor Who, and Internet Marketing. I had tripped right over a free traffic source when I wasn't even looking for one.

I knew I was on to something big. I started digging around the site and I didn't see anyone dropping links around like crazy. This was either a really good thing or a really bad one. I started testing and low and behold it was a very good thing! I was able to land a link with no problems and it stuck. It wasn't a high volume traffic source but it was an untapped one.

After I knew I could land links one this app, I did what any good marketer would do...Look for more apps! I came across another really good app while I was editing a pic on my phone for Instagram and I came across another app with a social aspect built into it. It was a pic editing app where you could share your pics with others and get a following.

Needless to say that I had found traffic sources that weren't being used by the main stream marketers. My guess is that these micro social apps didn't have the big grandeur appeal of a Twitter or Instagram. True these apps have a smaller following than the bigger social media outlets but they still pack a punch!

These apps haven't been spoiled by marketers spamming links. I use these apps to point people towards my targets. You gain a mass following like you would do with any social media site but you need hold back on funneling them to just any old niche you are in. If your app has a social aspect of it and the main app is dedicated to anime, you have to come around to a anime way of thinking. you need to blend anime into your niche in a way that makes sense and gently funnel them towards your intended target.

Just remember... Like wild birds when you run up on them they will fly away. If all the birds fly away, you'll have nothing to hunt.
